Appellate Law

BLF is available to handle appeals in both federal and state courts, and to prepare petitions for certiorari, and merits or amicus briefs addressed to the United States Supreme Court.

Bass was named a StandOut appellate attorney by the National Law Journal in 2001.
Intellectual Property Law

I counsel and represent clients in all three areas of IP law: copyright law, trademark law and patent infringement litigation.

I have a background in science and the arts and am interested in removing legal obstacles to scientific advancements and
in enabling the arts and sciences to flourish.   The more complex the issue, the more determined I am to find a solution.
Copyrights

Litigated the first digital copyright case to be decided by the United States Supreme Court.

Available to consult on a wide array of issues pertaining to copyright law:
copyright terminations, licensing agreements, copyright infringement, e-commerce, application of copyright principles to the internet, fair use, parody, publishing agreements, digital rights, new media, derivative works, work-for-hire, public domain, actual and statutory damage models, application of copyright principles to fashion industry, to architecture, publishing, music industry, graphic arts, co-authorship issues, ghostwriting issues, reversions of copyright, etc.
Trademarks

Bass has counselled clients on a wide variety of trademark issues:  issues as to which of several trademarks has priority under the law, the extent of trademark usage, the intersection of trademark and copyright law, UDRP (Uniform Domain Name Resolution Policy) procedures, PTO proceedings, issues pertaining to licensing, trademark infringement, whether trademark law protects characters or expression that have fallen into the public domain under copyright law, digital rights issues, etc.

Bass has also handled trademark litigation on behalf of a major company with offices throughout the United States.
International Law

Schooled in both private and public international law, these days, I am particularly interested in assisting clients with international arbitrations and handling high-end litigation that involves complex issues.

Issues of particular interest: issues of sovereign immunity, act of state, forum non conveniens, the fashioning of arbitration clauses, questions pertaining to arbitrability and the issue of who decides arbitrability, combatting attempts to transform stream-lined arbitration processes into the equivalent of lengthy and complex litigation.
Labor and Employment

Bass has negotiated collective bargaining agreements and handled unfair labor practice proceedings, grievances and arbitrations and administrative proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, Public Employment Relations Board, EEOC, NY Division of Human Rights and New York City Commission on Human Rights.

She represented individuals and labor unions at the local, state, regional and national or international level.   She has practised in each of four sectors: in the private sector (under the National Labor Relations Act); the public sector (state, county and municipal employees); the railway labor sector (rail and airline employees), and federal sector.
