Welcome
BLF (the "Bass Law Firm") is a small firm with a large footprint. It has counselled clients and handled major cases in five areas of law: intellectual property law, international law, contract and commercial law, constitutional law and labor and employment law. It has made contributions to the law in each area.
Although probably best known for having litigated the case of Tasini v. The New York Times, the first digital copyright case to be taken up by the Supreme Court, BLF's portfolio is actually much broader. Having a grounding in both science and the arts, BLF sees it as one of its principal missions to attempt to enlist the law in helping to advance the other two disciplines. Its perspective and insights are unique. It handles copyright, trademark and patent infringement issues in the area of IP and IT, both public and private clients in the international, commercial and constitutional arenas, and labor and employment issues in all four sectors: the private, public (state, county and municipal), railway labor (rail and air), and federal sectors.
Its clients have ranged from individual authors and artists, and small to large corporations, to a state agency and instrumentality.
No client or issue is automatically out-of-bounds. On the other hand, BLF is very selective. BLF will only undertake a representation if it believes it can make a difference and is either intrigued by the issue involved or believes your position is the correct one. If you retain BLF, expect to be invested in the representation. You will not be sitting on the sidelines.
